Creepy Crawlers

PreK 4's found life in the compost pile. After the (expected) initial protests of "Gross!", all grabbed hand lenses and watched for movement in the trays of compost created by the older students from raked grass, dry leaves and contributions from the  Cafeteria chefs (did we mention the bunnies?). Rolly pollies proliferate. Do you know that mama rolly pollies carry their eggs on their tummies? Our favorite arthropods are the earwigs. Their smooth backs and speedy movements make them a great challenge to catch!

Our vermiculture tub yields 'wildlife' too. We check it often, and are surprised to identify egg cases and baby worms (nature models work great to train our eyes.
